Vigil for James Boyd

A candlelight vigil took place in the Sandia Foothills in response to the recent fatal shooting of a homeless camper by the Albuquerque Police Department. Organizers emphasized that the vigil is not a protest but instead a “remembrance of a man”. Last month, Albuquerque police shot 38-year-old James Boyd after a long standoff. A helmet camera video of the shooting showed Boyd picking up his belongings before he was shot by police. He later died at a hospital. Boyd’s death helped spark a protest Sunday that prompted the city to use tear gas on demonstrators. APD is currently under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.
