Santa Fe police corral escaped runaway tortoise, porcupine

A 150-pound “runaway” tortoise was taken into custody by Santa Fe Police Animal Control officers this morning as it slowed traffic on Old Santa Fe Trail around 10:30 a.m. Santa Fe police released, in part, this news release: “The African Spurred or Sulcata Tortoise named Plato escaped from a home on North Spur Road and may have been missing overnight. Officers were able to capture the 150-pound tortoise and quickly reunite him with his owner. The male tortoise is 15 years old, and his owner says he was likely searching for her granddaughter, Lola, who came to visit from San Diego and left on Sunday.”
